Kolkata: A fire gutted a thermocol-manufacturing factory at Alampur area in Howrah on Thursday at around 10.30 am. As many as 23 fire tenders were pressed into action to douse the flames though none was injured in the incident.
Locals spotted smoke billowing out of the factory and informed the fire brigade. Preliminary investigation said the fire originated from a short circuit. A huge quantity of inflammable materials stored inside led to the rapid spread of the flames. “We will conduct a probe to ascertain if there were any fire safety measures and proper licence for the factory to run,” a senior fire department official said, adding that they are looking for the owner of the factory for questioning.
