TMC MLA gets CBI summons in hospital
Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has served Trinamul Congress MLA Iqbal Ahmed another notice of summons, this time at the Belle Vue Clinic where he took admission citing illness five days ago.
According to sources, a CBI team visited the hospital in south Kolkata on Tuesday morning and delivered the summons to him to face questioning in Narada sting operation case. He was booked in a list of dozen Trinamul leaders including several MPs, MLAs and ministers for allegedly accepting cash for favour in an FIR filed by the CBI in the case. Mr Ahmed, who is also the Kolkata deputy mayor, has been asked to appear at around 11 am on June 22 at the CBI’s anti corruption branch office at Nizam Palace, which is close to the private hospital, sources revealed.
He had informed another central agency, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of his illness and inability to appear before it on Wednesday after receiving its summons. The CBI’s move comes after it learnt that the Trinamul MLA’s health condition was stable, sources claimed. This is the fourth time that Mr Ahmed received the summons. When he was summoned for the first time, he did not appear, seeking a week’s time citing ill health. When summoned again, Mr Ahmed appeared before ACB officers who grilled him for eight hours on June 15 before letting him go.
The MLA was again asked to appear the next day, sources revealed.
He later fell ill at home and took admission to the private hospital complaining of chest pain.
