TMC leader held for flouting traffic rules, live streams incident

Kolkata: A Trinamul Congress leader was arrested by the police for disobeying traffic rules and then capturing the entire sequence of events through a Facebook Live.

The incident resulted in a traffic snarls in the area near City Centre in Salt Lake. The accused, Sujan Basu, was picked up from his Northern Avenue residence in Sinthi early on Thursday morning.

According to sources, Mr Basu, while travelling to Salt Lake City Centre on Wednesday evening, took a U-turn by flouting traffic rules and was stopped by the on-duty traffic police personnel. The TMC leader immediately came out of the car and picked up an argument. He also took out his cell phone and started streaming the incident Live on Facebook. He tried misrepresenting the incident so it would look like the police were wrong in prosecuting him.

This resulted in traffic congestion in the area. He also allegedly assaulted the traffic police personnel and threatened one of them.

Two separate cases were initiated at Bidhannagar North and Bidhannagar East Police station, on the basis of which he was arrested.
