Plan to keep tabs on air quality, curb pollution
Kolkata: The Eastern Command is setting up an “Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System” at its headquarters: Fort William to curb air pollution on its premises and adjoining land under its jurisdiction. It will also advise the various clubs on Maidan area on the laying of pavor blocks on the ground.
On Sunday, Eastern Command General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Lt General M M Naravane said, “We will tell the clubs that when they would do the laying, the specified area around the route should be kept open and cement and concrete should not come right after the trunk. The pavor tiles should not be put on a bed cement but sand so that water can go down. It should not be concretised fully”
He was speaking after participating in an oath taking ceremony organised by the Eastern Command as part of its “Go Green Campaign” at Fort William Stadium where representatives of 72 clubs on Maidan pledged to make the area cleaner and greener on the eve of Earth Day.
The Eastern Command stated that a comprehensive plan has been forumlated to ensure “energy conservation” through execution of immediate, mid-term and long-term actions to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. A vow for water conservation has been taken to ensure 100 per cent waste water is utilised.
Besides a project for supervisory control and data acquisition has been initiated for monitoring water supply.
