Youth held for cheating woman of Rs 1 lakh

Kolkata: A youth was arrested from Belghoria in northern fringes of the city on Saturday night for allegedly cheating a woman in Salt Lake to the tune of Rs 1,00,000 on the pretext of an insurance policy. The accused, Arpan Ghosh, is a resident of North Nowdapara Road.

He was caught in connection with a case of fraud after the woman, Shanta Sen, a resident of BL 191, lodged a complaint with the Bidhannagar East police station on Saturday. Ms Sen claimed that she was cheated of around Rs 1 lakh after she was allured to open an insurance policy.

Deputy commissioner of police (detective department) of the Bidhannagar police commissionerate Santosh Pandey said, “She said she didn’t receive any document. The gang had an office at Globesyn building and name of the organisation was BMR Wealthcare.”

Arapn was booked under Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. The police is now looking for other accused who are absconding.
