Kolkata: Lambasting the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, Trinamul Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay on Friday said that the BJP was trying to
stifle the voice of the Opposition with its “brute majority” in the Parliament.

Mr Bandyopadhyay, the Lok Sabha leader of the party, addressed the Martyr’s Day rally for the first time after he was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Rose Valley scam in January this year and subsequently was released on bail.

“The BJP has a huge majority in Parliament. But don’t try to destroy the Opposition with this brute majority. This is what is called the ‘evil of brute majority’. Constructive Opposition should always be appreciated in a democracy as it strengthens parliamentary democracy, “ he asserted.

He further said that the country was going through a tumultuous phase. “There is a dangerous instability in the country... the instability is increasing... We all need to stand up and fight against this instability,” he said. He refused to speak of his experince at prison when asked.
