West Bengal Chief Minister fishing in troubled waters: Opposition

Many of her cabinet ministers, party MPs and senior leaders were involved in the scam and some were arrested.

Kolkata: Days after contesting the bypolls separately, CPI(M) and Congress on Monday launched a joint movement against the Trinamul Congress and asked its supremo Mamata Banerjee to “come clean” on the charges of corruption Saradha chit fund scam and Narada sting operation scam.

Ironically, the protest by CPI(M) and Congress against the ruling TMC over chit fund scams came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue to target Ms Banerjee from his public meeting in Agra.

“She is trying to fish in troubled waters. Instead of shedding crocodile tears for those who are affected by the demonetisation, she should take steps to get back the money of those people who have been looted in chit fund scams. Many of her cabinet ministers, party MPs and senior leaders were involved in the scam and some were arrested. Those who themselves are involved in Saradha and Narada scams should not talk about black money and demonetisation” said leader of the Opposition and senior Congress leader Abdul Mannan.

Leaders of CPI(M) and Congress today took out a rally under Chit Fund Sufferers Forum from College Square to Rani Rashmoni Avenue to protest against ponzi-scheme companies in West Bengal. Echoing the same, CPI(M) MLA Sujan Chakraborty said her opposition to demonetisation was a desperate attempt to save her own party leaders who are allegedly involved in Saradha and Narada scams.

“TMC does not have the credibility to talk about black money. This is nothing but a political gimmick,” he said. Later a delegation of Chit Fund Sufferers Forum went to Raj Bhawan and submitted a memorandum to governor Keshari Nath Tripathi seeking his intervention to ask Mamata Banerjee government to take necessary steps to return money to the people affected by chief fund scams.
