Mukul Roy’s ‘frequent’ meets with BJP under TMC lens

Kolkata: Tightening its noose around controversial Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Roy, the Trinamul Congress on Friday censured him declaring that his movements were being monitored in wake of his frequent meetings with the BJP leaders in New Delhi. 

Trinamul secretary general Partha Chatterjee informed about the party’s steps against Mr Roy.  This is the first time chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s party spoke against him openly. 

Mr Chatterjee, who is also the parliamentary affairs minister and education minister, said, “We have found reports and occasions where Mr Roy has been seen meeting BJP leaders.”

He elaborated, “Our party has not instructed him to meet anyone. It may be that Mr Roy meets the BJP leaders out of his personal rapport. Only he knows why he keeps meeting them and the actual purpose reason behind such meetings.”

Mr Chatterjee added, “Those who remain in touch with BJP leaders or are found to be hobnobbing with them can not be friends of the Trinamul. The party will never allow it. If Mr Roy attempts to cross his limits, the party will talk to him.” A week ago the Trinamul abolished the party’s vice president’s post leaving Mr Roy virtually without any position in the party. 

Only few days ago Mr Roy however claimed that he came to know from the media about his removal from the party’s post. The decision was taken amid strong speculation about him joining the BJP with another Rajya Sabha parliamentarian, Ritabrata Banerjee, who was expelled from the CPI(M) recently.
