Boy's body found with veins slit in Baruipur

Investigation revealed that Jagadish, the victim, had fallen prey to a business dispute that his father had with his neighbours.

Kolkata: A boy was found murdered, with his throat slit and veins cut under mysterious circumstances at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas early on Sunday. The police arrested four persons, including a neighbour of the victim named Ashok Haldar, for their alleged role in the crime. Preliminary investigation revealed that Jagadish had become the victim of a business dispute his father had with Ashok over a land deal.

Jagadish Mondal, the victim, had been missing since July 20. He was a class-VIII student. His father, Prabhas Mondal, is a land broker who also runs a grocery shop. The body was floating in a waterbody at Kholaghata in Piyali. It was recovered by the police for post-mortem. On the evening of July 20, as Jagadish was sitting in his father’s shop, Mr Haldar came and called him. As the boy responded, Mr Haldar took him away with him on the pretext of showing him “a wonderful thing”, sources said.

When Jagadish did not return home at night, his family members searched for him but failed to trace him. Mr Haldar was also absconding. The next day, the boy’s family lodged a complaint of abduction at the Baruipur police station. They however alleged that the cops harrassed them and did not pay attention to their allegations against Mr Haldar of abduction. The police however refuted their claims.

On Saturday, the cops of the Sundarban coastal police station arrested Mr Haldar and three others. On interrogating them, they found their involvement in the killing. Later, the Baruipur police station was informed. Based on the revealations of the arrested, the police traced the body.
