Kolkata: At a time when chief minister Mamata Banerjee has taken her fight against demonetisation to New Delhi, senior BJP leader and Union finance minister Arun Jaitley has asked the state BJP leaders to intensify its attack against the Mamata Banerjee government and extensively campaign for the demonetisation.

BJP sources said that Mr Jaitley has specifically asked the party leaders to raise awareness on the benefits demonetisation and educate people on how the move would help curb black money.

“We had a telephonic conference with the Union finance minister and he has asked our leaders to reach out to the people and raise awareness on the benefits of the Centre’s demonetisation drive. He has further asked us to make people understand how Trinamul Congress is spreading wrong information to them about the move to suit its personal interest,” the BJP leader said.

Meanwhile, a state BJP delegation met regional director of RBI, Rekha Warriar and other high-ranked officers after a senior state government official claimed that the RBI was of the view that the re-monetisation process in the state was not satisfactory.

“On the re-monetisation issue, RBI Kolkata has confirmed that the process is improving everyday and there is nothing to get panicked. It is our observation that a section of the state government and the ruling party are trying to create unnecessary unrest in the minds of the people here. It is unfortunate,” said state BJP vice-president Joy Prakash Majumdar.

Buoyed by its performance in the recently concluded bypolls, BJP is all set to intensify its movements against the state government. The party will launch on November 30 a series of protests outside every block office in West Bengal.
