Two members of Bangla terror outfit arrested

The Special Task Force of the Kolkata police arrested the two operatives from Uttar Pradesh with the help of the local police.

Kolkata: In a major operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata police on Tuesday arrested two suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operatives from Uttar Pradesh with the help of the local police. Musharoff Hussain alias Tejerul Islam alias Musa and Rubel Ahmed alias Monirul Islam, the two accused, are residents of Thakurgao village in Rangpur of Bangladesh.

Both have cases of terrorist activties and murder against them in their homeland.

They had plans of carrying out subversive activities on the eve of the Independence Day on August 15.

The investigators suspect they illegally entered India crossing the border in North 24 Parganas early this year to avoid the crackdown on the extremist outfits in the neighbouring country.

After entering India, the duo took shelter in Kolkata. According to STF sources, two other Bangladeshi nationals who entered India around that time and were arrested by the Amherst Street police revealed the arrival of Musharoff and Rubel to the police. Meanwhile Musharoff and Rubel fled from Kolkata, sources revealed. They took shelter at Surajpur in Greater Noida area.

The STF then contacted the anti terrorism squad (ATS) of the UP Police for assistance, sources disclosed. A four member team was despatched to the UP to chalk out a raid. In the morning a joint team caught Musharoff and Rubel from their hide-out. The UP ATS officials are now interrogating the arrested duo who will be brought later to Kolkata on a transit remand and will be produced at the court.
