CM Mamata gets controversial doc model in pandal replaced

President of the Service Doctors' Forum, an organisation of the medical practitioners, Sajal Biswas expressed his satisfaction over the replacement.

Kolkata: The controversial clay model depicting a doctor as a form of Mahisasura at Mohammed Ali Park Durga Puja has been replaced with a corrupt man overnight following the intervention by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also the health minister.

In the wake of the outcry by the medical fraternity on Saturday Ms Banerjee in the evening called up the puja committee chairman Dinesh Bajaj and spoke to him. It was decided that the clay model would be removed and the model of a man accepting cash as bribe would be placed. Later the clay model of a man, in a red shirt, accepting the money was placed which was seen on Sunday.

President of the Service Doctors’ Forum, an organisation of the medical practitioners, Sajal Biswas expressed his satisfaction over the replacement. He said, “We now have no objection. We are happy that the puja organiser has realised their mistake and removed the controversial model.”

Controversy shrouded at the puja committee has claimed that it was an effort to create awareness among the visitors against the menace of fake doctors’ network recently busted statewide after the model of a doctor, wearing apron and carrying a stethoscope while apparently taking money from a patient, was allegedly depicted as Mahisasura, the evil.
