Rs 5 lakh, jobs to families of jawans killed in Chattisgarh
She also promised a job to one family member of all three families.
Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited the family of Krishna Kumar Das, one of the 25 CPRF jawans slain by Maoists in Sukma, Chattisgarh. Offering condolences, the chief minister announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the family of three of the slain jawans who were from Bengal. She also promised a job to one family member of all three families.
Ms Banerjee, who is now in the North Bengal district, visited the family at their residence on Vivekananda Street on Tuesday morning. State director general of police Surajit Kar Purkayastha accompanied her. Two of the slain Bengali CPRF personnel, sub inspector Krishna Kumar Das and constable Binay Chandra Barman, hailed from Kotwali in Coochbehar of North Bengal while Arup Karmakar, a constable, was from Karimpur in Nadia of South Bengal.
“Among the jawans killed in the Maoist attack in Sukma, three were from our state. The jawans from Bengal always serve the nation and lay down their lives for the nation. One of the deceased was barely 27 years old and had married 15 days ago. It’s a very sad incident. His wife is a qualified person with a BEd and an MA degree. She has also appeared in the SSC examination, and works at a private organisation,” said Ms Banerjee.
“I asked minister Jyotipriyo Mullick to receive the bodies to reach them to their homes. On behalf of the West Bengal government, jobs will be provided to one family member with Rs 5 lakh as financial assistance to each of the families. We cannot get back those who left have us forever. But its our duty to stand by their families and support them,” she added. In the evening, BJP national president Amit Shah mourned the murder of the three CRPF jawans from the state.
“Their sacrifice will not go in vain,” he said at a rally in Siliguri. Since the family members of the three came to know about their death on Monday night, they have been in a state of shock.
On Tuesday night the bodies of the three were handed over to their families for last rites.
