Three swept away by sea in Bakkhali

Kolkata: Three persons, including a father-daughter duo, were drowned while bathing in the sea at Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas on Saturday afternoon. Their bodies were recovered. The victims are Somraj Gupta (37), his daughter Somrina (7) and their family friend Rishita Pramanik (32).

While Rishita’s body was recovered from Namkhna area, around 25 kms away from the spot, on Saturday night following a marathon search by the coastal police personnel, the bodies of Somraj and Somrina were recovered at around 6.30 am on Sunday from Haripur under the Frazerganj coastal police station area. The three bodies were sent for post-mortem.

Somraj, Somrina and Rishita were in a group of six from two families who went on Saturday morning to Henry Island in Bakkhali on a weekend trip and checked into a tourist lodge. A resident of Kayasthapara in Kasba, Somraj, who earlier worked as a doctor in the Indian Navy, was working at a science institute, according to sources adding that his wife, Tandrima Gupta, works as a sub inspector at the Kolkata police.
