BEd colleges to be given ratings: Centre
Kolkata: The ministry of human resource development will evaluate all B. Ed colleges across the country on five set of ratings, and colleges with ‘five star’ will not be regulated by the National Council for Teacher’s Education (NCTE), MHRD secretary Anil Swarup said on Tuesday.
He said total 16,000 B.Ed colleges across the country that are recognised by the NCTE have been put up in its portal. “Around 4,000 colleges have not submitted their affidavit by July 15, which was the last date. So these will not be under the ambit of the NCTE, and hence certificates issued by them will not be recognised. The recognised colleges will be evaluated on the basis of different criteria. If a college acquires ‘five star’ status, we will cease to regulate those,” he said on the sidelines of an Assocham programme on education here.
Sources said out of the 4,000 colleges that have not submitted their affidavits, 67 are in the state. The MHRD will conduct an assessment of the teachers who undergo training programme in the B. Ed colleges and will prepare a list so that it will be easy for the states and the Centre to pick up teachers as per their need.
The MHRD secretary also said the NCERT books will be made available to students of all public and private schools to reduce the financial burden.
