Kolkata: Trinamul Congress leader Baishwanor Chattopadhyay compared BJP leader Mukul Roy with Mir Jafar on Sunday. He also pointed fingers at him alleging corruption.

“A man is spreading canards after switching from one party to another. People know how much truth there is in his comments. Like Mir Jafar he is backstabbing the party which made him railway minister to get a place in another party,” Mr Chattopadhyay said.

According to the Trinamul councillor, Mr Roy is doing treachery with his old party like Bibhishan, the character in Ramayana.

Countering Mr Roy’s claims about chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Trinamul MP Abhishek Banerjee’s ownership of trademarks of the party’s slogan: Maa, Mati, Manush and mouthpiece: Jago Bangla he alleged that the former Trinamul leader also made assets.

“We also have information about him. We know how he minted money by setting up hotels and bars and where he owns the properties. We will expose him in time,” Mr Chattopadhyay, who is also a lawyer, added.

At a press meet on Saturday Mr Roy alleged of multiple chit fund firms: Vibgyor and MPS’ links with Naktala Sporting Club with which Trinamul secretary general Partha Chatterjee is also associated.

The Trinamul councillor however reasoned, “The club has already clarified about it. Mr Roy’s comments have no base. He had done whatever he wanted earlier. He committed crime. By joining hands with the BJP he is now trying to harm us.”

He said, “I believe that he would not be able to do anything. Whatever

information and evidence we have against him with us, will be brought to light. We will also prove that he is acting like Bibhishan.”
