Anirban Khanra, another second place holder, wanted to serve the poor as a doctor in his hometown Bankura

Kolkata: A majority of the toppers in the Madhyamik Examination 2017 want to become doctors. Anwesa Pyne from Vivekananda Shikshaniketan High School in Bankura who topped the board exams by bagging a record 690 marks, said she wanted to be a doctor.

“I would sit for the NEET medical examinations. I thought that I would get 95 per cent marks. But coming first was a bolt from the blue,” Anwesa said. Interestingly, the girl from Bankura had never been among the first two ranks in the school examinations. Mojammel Haque of Bankura Zilla School, who came second with 689 marks, feels that the change in the curriculum and majority of the questions being short answer type, had resulted in such high marks. “I want to be a doctor and Life Science is my favourite subject. “ he said.

Anirban Khanra, another second position holder of Ramnagar Nootbehari Pal Chowdhury High School in Hooghly, also dreams of becoming a doctor. “No one is extra ordinary. Hard work is the key to success. You should read and learn by heart and have a good understanding of the subjects,” he said.

Sayan Karmakar of Bankura Zilla School who came fourth with 687 marks wants to become a doctor and work for the poor people of his village in Bankura. “The village in which I live has an acute crisis of quality doctors. People have to travel to Kolkata for treatment. I want to serve the poor people,” he said.
