Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government is working hard for  the uplift and dignity of women,  said Dr Shashi Panja, minister of state for child development, women development and social welfare. “We have taken several measures and initiatives to make sure women, especially those living in fringes, get what they deserve, “Dr Panja said at the Seminar on Changing Face of Leadership organized by the CII here in the city on Saturday.

According to her scores of women face discrimination and harassment. “It’s high time we all work together to put an end to this and build a stronger nation. “All of us are aware of the challenges women face every day. The society has not been able to defeat gender stereotypes which still influence our upbringing and values,” she said.

T.V. Narendran, chairman, CII eastern region & Managing Director, Tata Steel Ltd, said women in leadership roles are not new to India. “Starting from mythology to modern Indian history or business and industry, we have many Indian women who took up the mantle of leadership and have guided us through crisis and victory,” he said. Mr Narednran added that it is pleasing to know that India tops the chart in the female head of the state indicator, and is in the ninth place in women’s empowerment in politics.
