School students visit ICGS Sujay
Kolkata: The newly-built Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sujay arrived at Kolkata Port for visit by the school students and National Cadet Corps (NCC) members to mark the commemoration of the 41st raising day of the ICG on February 1.
It is an advanced offshore patrol vessel fitted with a 30-mm CRN 91 Naval Gun and integrated bridge system and integrated machinery control system among other features which was commissioned at Goa last month.
Eastern Command chief public relation officer Wing Commander SS Birdi said that on Sunday over 150 children visited various sections of the warship and they were briefed about navigation and communication equipment, electrical system, the main propulsion system and the armament and offensive equipment on board the ship.
He added, “The students displayed keen interest in learning about the role of the Coast Guard as a maritime law enforcement agency. They also learnt about the importance of focused coastal security mechanism and the enhanced role of the ICG in improving overall coastal security along the coastline.”
The Captain and crew of the ship interacted with the students and answered their queries on a variety of topics ranging from Coast Guard operations to how to join Coast Guard. To raise awareness and motivate school children ICGS Sujay is planned to remain berthed at the Kidderpore dock till January 31.
