Offered SRFTI chief post, Victor says no

The ministry also took a decision to constitute SRFTI society and a governing council which would be headed by the chairman.

Kolkata: Actor Victor Banerjee has declined the post of chairman of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), which was offered to him by the Union ministry of information and broadcasting.

It was learnt that the actor has expressed his reservations to the job offered to him and conveyed his decision to the ministry.

He has reportedly said that he was preoccupied with work and would not be able to shoulder the new responsibility.

Last month, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting decided to appoint the national award-winning actor as the permanent chairman of SRFTI and had conveyed their decision to the SRFTI officials.

The appointment of Mr Banerjee was necessitated after the end of the tenure of former chairman Partha Ghosh in August.

The ministry also took a decision to constitute SRFTI society and a governing council which would be headed by the chairman.

With Mr Banerjee turning down the offer, the ministry will have to once again start the process of finding a suitable candidate even as the institute continues to function without a chairman.
