Amit Shah tears into TMC, says time up'
Kolkata: Determined to uproot the Trinamul Congress from power in West Bengal BJP president Amit Shah on Friday declared that the saffron party would definitely enforce the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state if it comes to power. He affirmed that all the infiltrators would be selected one after another and would thrown out of the state also.
Sending a strong message to chief minister Mamata Banerjee Mr Shah accused her of intimidating the refugees on the pretext of NRC. He predicted that the time was up for her rule as the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections would show the door to her party which he rated inferior to the Communist. He observed that the poll would be the “battle of survival” for West Bengal, reiterating the BJP’s target to win 23 seats including Alipurduar out of 42.
The BJP chief also tore into the Trinamul supremo and other opposition leaders for questionning the Indian Air Force strike on terror camps in Pakistan’s Balakot. Addressing a poll campaign rally at Parade Ground in Alipurduar in North Bengal in support of party candidate John Barla he claimed, “Narendra Modi government is again coming to power. We will enforce NRC in Bengal.”
Mr Shah elaborated, “The BJP government will pick each and every infiltrator and will throw them out. They (Trinamul) are trying to create a panic among the refugees in the name of NRC. They tell them they would have to leave for NRC. I have come here to reassure the refugees that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is our commitment. There is no need for the people from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist community to leave the country.”
He added, “We will give them the rights to live here with dignity. Mamata di, no matter how much power you may enforce, no one has the guts to throw out the refugees of India.
This election is not only important for the country but it is also the battle for survival for Bengal. It decide whether democracy in Bengal would prevail or not because the Trinamul has throttled democracy here.”Mr Shah argued, “The Trinamul’s defeat is evident this time. An opportunity has come to uproot the Trinamul from its base. I have faith in the people of Bengal. I tell people BJP is going to win 23 seats here. I want to tell Mamata Didi: your time is up.” He also blamed Ms Banerjee for appeasement politics to get votes.
“The Trinamul government is nothing but an example of appeasement and vote bank politics. They have Rs 4,000 crore for Madrasas.
But they do not have funds for engineering, medical and other higher education.
For vote bank politics Mamata Didi is forcefully making Urdu language compulsory in every school in the name of Bengali culture,” he alleged. The BJP president complained, “Two of our workers who opposed it were hacked to death. Mamata Didi, this is not Bengali culture. You can fool the people of Bengal.”
