Y-category security for BJP chief Dilip Ghosh
Kolkata: State BJP president Dilip Ghosh is going to get Y category of security cover. The decision to strengthen his protection has been taken by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) after analysing some intelligence reports which indicated of threats to him during his district visits, according to sources.
The Y category security cover will include the deployment of five armed personnel of the central paramilitary force — either the central reserve police force or central industrial security force — around Mr Ghosh, sources revealed. Earlier Mr Ghosh who is also the Kharagpur MLA was covered by two security personnel including one carrying arms.
Besides, the security ring is going to be beefed up at his residence where only four security personnel used to be deployed. Sources disclosed that the head count would be doubled.
The MHA’s move comes close on the heels of a daylight attack allegedly by a group of Trinamul Cong-ress workers on the state BJP president’s car at Contai in East Midnapore recently where he arrived to attend a meeting.
The state BJP president had said 10 karyakartas had to be hospitalised following the attack. The BJP leader had also said that he had faced similar attacks on earlier occasions.
Although Mr Ghosh was not inside the car, he later shared a video of the vandalism accusing the ruling party workers. Ghosh claimed that the attack at Contai in East Midnapore was the “handiwork” of Trinamul Congress workers, a charge denied by the ruling party.
Among the BJP leaders in the state, Rahul Sinha, Mukul Roy, Babul Supriyo and Roopa Ganguly are those who are provided security cover by the central paramilitary force personnel at present.
