Some private hospitals spreading rumours: Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused private hospitals of spreading rumours after the West Bengal Health Regulatory Commission was set up by her to deal with complaints of medical negligence by the patients.
“Some of the private hospitals are spreading rumours to boost their business. And it has been underway since the health commission was set up. I urge the private hospitals and nursinghomes to look into health issues from a humanitarian angle and not from business angle,” Ms Banerjee said.
In March she had set up the 11-member health panel to probe allegations of medical negligence leading to deaths of two patients in two separate incidents at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital.
Meanwhile, the panel’s website was reportedly found shut for the past one week after the firm which was entrusted for maintaining it stopped its work, allegedly over non-payment of fees. The site was later restored on Monday evening.
