Mumbai: Blade wielding junkies assault, rob youngster
Mumbai: A 22-year-old youth, Vijay Vaish, was attacked by three blade-wielding drug addicts on Friday night. He was later admitted in the civic-run Bhabha Hospital at Bandra where he received 13 stitches.
The incident occurred when Vaish, a resident of the Golibar in Khar (west) was returning home from the vegetable shop where he works via the by lanes of Gaiety theatre. The drug addicts suddenly approached Vaish, demanding money from him. However, the former denied them the same when he was threatened with a blade. When Vaish removed his wallet to give the accused the money, they snatched his wallet and cell phone before slitting his throat and chest and fleeing. Vaish was later spotted by pedestrians, who rushed him to the hospital.
Speaking about the incident, Vaish’s brother, Santosh, said, “We received the call from the hospital after he was admitted. We don’t know why they attacked my brother. Where were the police?” Dr P. Jadhav, medical superintendent of the hospital, said, “He is stable now. We have also informed the local police station. We have tested him for HIV since he was attacked by drug addicts, but the tests were negative.”
The Nirmal Nagar police has registered a complaint against unknown people.
