Tinkering labs to be set up in 116 schools
Mumbai: Tinkering Laboratories will be established in 116 schools across Maharashtra. The laboratories will be set up by NITI Aayog, a government planning body to “create scientific temper, cultivate curiosity and innovation”. The aim is to give a chance to the young children to work with tools to understand the concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
The central government has started the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) to support the establishment of a network of Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL). The key features of ATL are to shape ideas of the young minds through Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mode and learn innovation skills.
116 schools in Maharashtra has been finalised by Niti Aayog.In order to run it successfully, AIM will be provide one-time establishment cost of Rs 10 lakh and operational expenses of Rs 10 lakh for a maximum period of five years to each laboratory in the state.
