Chat lands bike lifters in cop's net

Two high-end KTM Duke bikes worth rs 3 lakh were recovered from them.

Mumbai: A post-theft WhatsApp conversation in context to disposing of stolen bikes, proved to be the undoing of two teenage culprits, who landed into the custody of the Thane (rural) police for their involvement in bike lifting cases in Bhayandar. Two high-end KTM Duke bikes worth rs 3 lakh were recovered from them.

The accused have been identified as Ronak Mehta (19) and Jaimesh Bhansali (19). According to the police, Mehta, a resident of Shiv Sena lane in Bhayandar (west) is the mastermind of the racket, which targeted only top-end sports bikes in the city and handed over to his Surat-based accomplice, Jaimesh Bhansali for disposal.

The duo was remanded to custody after they were produced before the district session court, Thane, on Thursday.

Not ruling out the duo’s involvement in more bike lifting cases in and around the region, senior police inspector- Rajendra Kamble, said, “One of the bike owners suspected that his ex-employee Ronak could have been involved in the theft. However, in a WhatsApp conversation the duo had openly discussed about changing number plates of the stolen bikes."
