Power firm in dock for Ghatkopar wall collapse
Mumbai: The Ghatkopar police has registered a case against a contractor of Reliance Energy on charges of causing death by negligence after the wall of the firm’s office at Asalfa Nagar collapsed and fell on an adjoining house on Tuesday. The heavy rains that had paralysed the city caused the fall, killing a man and injuring two of his family members. A local corporator had allegedly alerted the occupants of the house about the shaky portion of the wall, that eventually collapsed on the fateful day.
The house owner, Rameshwar Kumar Tiwari died but his wife and son have sustained serious injuries. Ghatkopar police station’s senior police inspector Vyankat Patil said, “It is clearly a case of causing hurt by and act endangering the life or personal safety of others (section 338), causing grievous hurt by an act endagering life or personal safety of tohers (section 304 (a)) and punishment culpable homicide not amounting to murder.”
“We are investigating the case and have taken statements of some of the residents and the corporator before filing the case against the contractor. We will soon make arrests,” he added.
