Mumbai: The second summary electoral roll for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election was published Saturday. More than 10 lakh new voters have enrolled themselves, while around 2.15 lakh names have been deleted from the electoral roll, informed an official from the state office of the Election Commission of India. As per the final draft, 8.94 crore voters are eligible to vote in the state Assembly election, he said.

Out of the 8.94 voters, 4.66 crore are male while 4.27 crore are female. However, the number of voters will increase as citizens can make applications till such time the nomination of candidates is finalised. Citizens whose names have been deleted can contact the electoral registration office and the district collector’s office or sub-divisional office, the official said.

“The citizens who have not enrolled themselves can log on to https://nvsp.in/ to apply for a fresh voter identity. They can also  check whether their names are on the list or not on the said website,” he said.

The electoral roll was originally scheduled to be published on August 19 but was rescheduled to August 31 owing to the floods in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts of Maharashtra.

During the Lok Sabha elections, the number of male voters in the state was 4,57,02,579, whereas the number of female voters was 4,16,25,819. The total number of voters eligible to vote in the Lok Sabha elections was 8.85 crore. The total number of voters in Maharashtra in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was 8.07 crore.

Meanwhile, a delegation of senior ECI officials will visit the state on September 4 to review preparedness for the Assembly polls, due to be held in October this year.
