Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Tuesday granted the Centre two weeks’ time to reply to a petition filed by the taximen’s union seeking exemption to install speed governors in certain vehicles as the manufacturers of many vehicles are not interested in manufacturing speed governors. The union is seeking the court’s direction to the government that till the time speed governors are not available in the market, taxi drivers and owners should not be compelled to install them.

The union had argued vehicles like the Padmini and the Ambassador are being used as taxis but their manufacturers are not interested in making speed governors.
