Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao on Tuesday inaugurated the battery-operated vehicle that will now provide a tour of Raj Bhavan to
visitors.

The vehicle has been offered by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).

The Governor’s residence has always been a magnet for tourists and citizens alike.

A statement issued by the MTDC said that the initiative has been taken for comfort and security of tourists. It said, “The government is now looking to further develop the tourist attraction owing to an increase in the number of tourists at Raj Bhavan.”

State tourism minister Jaykumar Rawal said that the battery-operated vehicle had been offered to enhance the tourism experience and create greater visibility for the heritage site in Mumbai. “Bhavan, the Governor's home at Malabar Hill (south Mumbai) has become the city’s novel tourist hotspot and our aim is to transform Maharashtra into an environment-friendly tourist destination.

This is a small effort by MTDC to diversify tourism products to cater to the passion of growing travellers,” said Rawal at
the inauguration of the vehicle.

Apart from Rao and Rawal, Nitin Gadre, principal secretary of the tourism department; Vijay Waghmare, joint managing director, MTDC; Aashutosh Rathod, joint managing director, MTDC; and Swati Kale, general manager, MTDC, were also present.
