Cong leaders, activists discuss human rights' violations 'spurt'

Eminent architect and urban planner Nitin Killawala raised the problem faced by Mumbaikars because of the metro construction work.

Mumbai: The Congress Friday held consultations with city-based NGOs, activists and civil society groups on the ‘spurt’ in violation of human rights under the BJP and other issues.

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam along with Congress MP Madhusudan Mistry, who has been appointed as chairman of the AICC Civic and Social Outreach Congress by party president Rahul Gandhi, conducted the consultation programme. Mr Mistry took note of all the grievances raised by the activists.

Mr Nirupam said, “I strongly feel that the reason behind Congress president Mr Gandhi's decision to form the AICC Civic and Social Outreach Congress was to address the rising concerns of the activists and NGOs across the city. We aim to create a bridge between Mr Gand-hi and the activists, who work for the people and lead us towards a better society.”

Representatives of the Citizens for Justice and Peace Group presented their manifesto where they stated that victims of cow vigilante attacks and mob lynchings must not be booked under the Cow Protection laws. The manifesto states the importance of ensuring that members of marginalised communities, historically oppressed castes, economically weak classes and religious minorities are not falsely implicated and jailed in cases of targeted violence and rioting.
