Nationalist Congress Party denies giving up seat to congress

The confusion over the Ahmednagar seat for the forthcoming Lok Sabha (LS) polls still continues.

Mumbai: The confusion over the Ahmednagar seat for the forthcoming Lok Sabha (LS) polls still continues. While there are reports that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has decided to allot the seat to the Congress, the party promptly issued a denial saying no such decision has been taken so far.

On Friday, reports regarding Mr Pawar announcing that his party is giving up its claim on the Ahmednagar seat started making rounds. However, he did not make clear which seat he would be seeking in exchange of that.

However, state party chief Jayant Patil denied the reports saying they are baseless. “There are reports that the party chief has allotted the Ahmednagar to Congress. However, we have not taken any decision in this regard,” he said.

Congress has staked its claim on the Ahmednagar seat as Sujay Vikhe-Patil, son of Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil – the opposition leader in state Legislative Assembly –has announced to contest from there. To enable Sujay to contest from Nagar seat, the Congress has expressed its willingness to exchange Aurangabad seat with the NCP.
