Uddhav Thackeray to endorse Amit Shah's candidacy

The two parties had similar goals and their ideologies and hearts were woven together, said Uddhav Thackeray.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s visit to Gujarat to endorse the nomination of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah will help weed out differences between the workers of two parties, said leaders of Shiv Sena.

Sena chief on Saturday visited Gujarat to attend the filing of nomination by Mr Shah for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat. On this occasion, he announced that although there were differences between his party and the BJP earlier, all the issues have been resolved now. “The two parties had similar goals and their ideologies and hearts were woven together,” he said.

According to Sena sources, this will send a positive signal for the workers of Sena and BJP, who have been at loggerheads for last five years on several issues. Keeping their differences aside, both the parties have decided to forge an alliance for the Lok Sabha polls.

Senior Shiv Sena leader and industries minister Subhash Desai said, “Once we decide to contest together, it is important for supporters of both parties to work together and ensure the victory of an alliance. In this context, Uddhavji’s Gujarat visit was very important. He has shown that top leaders are ready to join hands by burying the hatchet. The party workers should now follow the suit.”

This is not the first time Mr Thackeray has visited Gujarat to extend Sena’s support to Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. In 2006, when Narendra Modi, the then chief minister of Gujarat, protested the Central government’s stand on the Sardar Sarovar dam height issue in Ahmedabad, Uddhav was there to support him.
