DMRC invites bids for first phase of Metro 6

Mumbai: For executing the Metro-6 (Jogeshwari-Kanjurmarg) project’s first phase, the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) has invited bids. The first phase includes construction of viaducts of three stations i.e. IIT Powai, Kanjur-marg and Vikhroli.

Meanwhile, housing minister, Ravindra Waikar has asked the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to complete the work of incomplete bridge at Jogeshwari east by July at least, which has been stalled due to the Metro 6 work. The DMRC is executing the project on behalf of MMRDA.

“Part design and construction of viaducts and three elevated stations including a ramp for depot entry of Swami Samarth Nagar - JVLR - SEEPZ - Kanjur Marg - Vikhroli (EEH), should be completed within 30 months after awarding the contract,” reads the tenders, floated by the DMRC recently. The bidders may be finalised by May 7, since the process will end by then. The corridor received cabinet nod in October last year. The authorities are planning to execute the project in two phases.

However, the work of Metro 6 had affected a bridge of BMC, the work of which is in a limbo since more than a year. The eastern arm of the Rail Over Bridge (ROB) at Jogeshwari which connects Western Express Highway (WEH) to Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) was thrown open to motorists in September 2015, later it was decided to extend the ROB upto link road in the west to decongest JVLR.

But, the extension plans were stuck after the Metro 6 alignment collided with ROB. Few weeks back, Mr Waikar had visited the site and had asked the MMRDA officials to speed up the work. In reply to this, the officials had assured that the pillar work for bridge would start in July. “We are hopeful that the work will begin soon, the appointed contractor will assist the civic body in completing the Jogeshwari bridge,” said a senior MMRDA official.
