MUMBAI: On the occasion of the 58th Maharashtra Foundation Day, the Shiv Sena on Tuesday, while pointing at farmers’ suicides, political murders and unemployment, asked whether the ruling parties have fulfilled the purpose of forming a united Maharashtra so far. The party even asked as why the ruling party in Maharashtra was not helping the Marathi people in Karnataka who want their small region’s merger with Maharashtra. The Sena was referring to the dispute related to the Maharashtra-Karnataka border.

“The united Maharashtra was formed 58 years ago. However, the question is if the purpose of the united Maharashtra has been fulfilled? If Maharashtra evolved because of different ruling parties ruled it so far? Why thousands of farmers are committing suicide every year? Why unemployment is growing? Why the poison of political suicides has been spread? The martyrs who laid their lives for the united Maharashtra movement must be feeling disappointing. Marathi people should wake up and show unity to face these problems,” the Shiv Sena said in its mouthpiece Saamana on Tuesday.

“It was a conspiracy to break away Mumbai from Maharashtra and give it to Gujarat. However, the Marathi people unitedly fought for the city. The people sacrificed a lot and spilled their blood that gave us united Maharashtra along with Mumbai. However, a few anti Marathi elements are again trying to divide the state in the name of caste, religion.” the Sena said.

Reacting on Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute, Shiv Sena said the Marathi people in the area are still unhappy. “The united Maharashtra movement was equally supported by Belgaum. But a part Belgaum, Nipani Karvar in Karnataka was not included in Maharashtra. The Karnataka government is very regressive towards the border
villages. Why the ruling party is not helping them?” the Shiv Sena asked.
