Still have old roof? Well, no new rain sheds for you then

The proposal of denying the permission to such errant establishments has been approved by civic chief Ajoy Mehta.

Mumbai: This monsoon, the establishments that had failed to remove their temporary sheds last year will not be allowed to erect new sheds. This year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to deny permissions to errant establishments for not complying with the municipal rules.

According to the civic officials, every year BMC allows certain establishments like hotels, shops, offices and houses to erect temporary sheds for protection against the rains. The permission to erect sheds is issued by the respective ward offices.

“While giving permission, the establishments are asked to remove sheds after the end of monsoon, latest by October 31. However, it has been found that they continue to use these sheds even after the rains. Hence, we will not allow any establishment that has failed to remove their sheds before the last year’s deadline, to erect a shade this year,” a senior civic official said.

The proposal of denying the permission to such errant establishments has been approved by civic chief Ajoy Mehta.

“The assistant engineers of buildings and factories department of respective ward offices have been asked to keep a record of the establishments that have been given the permission to erect sheds. The department official have also been asked to inspect whether the establishments have removed their temporary sheds by October 31st,” the official added.

According to the available data, more than 2,100 establishments had been given permission across the city during the last monsoon. Among these, the highest number of permissions were given to establishments in Kandivali (R-South) and Andheri East (K-East) wards with 337 and 235 permissions respectively.
