Cops search CCTV footage to nab Italian banker's rapist
MUMBAI: Juhu police has begun a search to trace the accused ‘tourist guide’ who allegedly raped an Italian tourist, working as a banker in her country. In a bid to gather evidence, the police are scouring through the CCTV footages of the route taken by the tourist to reach her hotel in Colaba. The pol-ice are also seeking help from cyber experts to track him, who used his Instagram account to message the Italian victim after raping her.
The Juhu police said that after registering a Zero First Information Report (FIR) at Colaba police station, the case was transferred to them, following which the primary probe is underway.
The police have sought details of the route taken by the victim along with the accused to reach her hotel in Colaba, and the CCTV footage from cameras installed along the way are being checked.
A police officer, requesting anonymity, said, “We are yet to receive the paperwork for the transfer of case. Once we get our hands on the papers, it will give us access to the evidence provided by the victim. We have already roped in a cyber expert to help us track down his internet activity and locations via the application.”
Police said that the victim, in her complaint, filed on Friday, has stated that on the day of the incident, she had boarded a bus as part of a sightseeing tour of Mumbai. She met the accused during the bus tour on June 14.
He introduced himself as a tour guide and the she hired his services. After the bus tour ended at around 7pm in Juhu that day, the accused offered to show the victim the bungalow of film superstar Amitabh Bachchan that was also in the vicinity. Following this, the accused allegedly forced her to consume alcohol and also touched her inappropriately and raped her in a car.
