Mumbai: For the first year junior college (FYJC) students who could not bag a seat at any colleges, there is still hope. The state school education department announced that it would conduct special admission round for the second time from September 4 for the students who didn’t get admission.

In this round, the new applicants and the AT KT students can apply. This round of admissions will be like the previous ones where the fresh applications have to filed. Around 15,000 are still without any seat and 50,000 extra seats are vacant.More than 2.3 lakh students applied this year for FYJC admissions through four admission rounds that were conducted between July and August.

However, even after the four rounds, more than 8,000 did not take admissions to the colleges they were assigned to by the department, as the students were not "satisfied". While another bunch of 2,000 were not allotted any seat in any of the colleges in the four rounds and one special round.

Adding to this number, 5,000 more AT KT students (2016-17 batch) are now added to the list for the second special round. AT KT students are those, who have failed in a maximum of two subjects out of six (excluding Environmental studies which is graded).

After this round, more rounds are in the mind of the department. “We have to keep on conducting the admission rounds – be it special round or first come, first serve (FCFS) basis – as this year’s rule is to place each and every student of FYJC through the online system,” said a senior official from the department.

A source confirmed that, after this second special round, the second round of FCFS basis would be conducted. The first FCFS was conducted on August 16.
