The victim's parents later lodged a complaint against Bhoye saying their daughter ended her life due to him.

Mumbai: A tribal man from Talasari in Palghar district was sentenced to three years in jail for abetting his wife’s suicide. According to the additional public prosecutor Ujjwala Moholkar, apart from sentencing Pradeep Laxman Bhoye (30) to imprisonment, the assistant sessions judge S. “Bhoye used to harass and beat up his wife Darshana (22). He blamed her of not having children. Fed up of the torture at the hands of her husband, she set herself ablaze on May 10, 2017,” Ms Moholkar said.

Bhoye was found guilty under sections 306 (abetment to suicide), 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, she added.

The police said that in her complaint, a relative had mentioned that she had poured kerosene on herself due to unbearable torture on the hands of her husband. She had sustained 95 per cent burn injuries. A case of accidental death was registered at the time of incident. The victim’s parents later lodged a complaint against Bhoye saying their daughter ended her life due to him.
