Kurla, Bandra to get FOBs, 10 critical ones to be listed

A railway official said, Mr Piyush Goyal has promised that the upgradation of these ten bridges will have no issue of cash-flow.

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority and Western Railway will plan for a foot overbridge (FOB) at Bandra and Kurla stations, which are prone to a stampede like the one that was seen at Elphinstone station on Friday morning because of the surge of commuters that the development of Bandra Kurla Complex (BMC) has brought to these stations. Two other FOBs with similar issues are situated at Chinchpokli and Currey Road stations. The officials have to also provide a list of top 10 bridges that in a critical state.

Sanjay Verma, a commuter who travels from Panvel to BKC every day feels that an FOB from the platform where Panvel trains halt to the place where one gets share autos is another tragedy waiting to happen. He said, “It takes one almost 15 minutes in peak hours to cross the FOB and the situation is such that many of my female colleagues have complained of being groped and I too personally have lost a mobile in the crowd.”
