MU postpones SY B.Com exams to November 18
Mumbai: The Mumbai University (MU) has postponed examinations of second-year B.Com. students, as they were clashing with C.A. examinations. The SY B.Com.examinations have been delayed from November 8 to November 18 for both SY B.Com and SY B.Com (Accounting and Finance) students. The decision was taken so that students of the commerce stream would be able to appear for their C.A. examinations as well.
The decision is due in large part to the efforts of commerce students who have been struggling for several months to get the dates revised. With the C.A. exams scheduled between November 1 and 14, the dates were clashing with the SY B.Com. exams, which is why a group of students wrote letters to the vice chancellor and controller of examinations and evaluation, MU, requesting a change in dates. Usually, C.A. intermediate exams are scheduled in the month of January every year by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
The demand for change in schedule of SY B.Com exams grew louder as many more student voices joined in; some of them even fighting with the varsity to effect the change. Finally, education minister Vinod Tawde relented and instructed MU officials to reschedule the exams. Last week, meetings were conducted by MU officials where the decision to postpone the exams was taken.
All affiliated colleges and institutes will follow the changed schedule for SY B.Com exams. Students can now easily appear for their degree exams after giving their C.A. exams. While the dates have been changed, the exam timings will remain the same as before.
