World’s seven wonders to come up at Mazgaon

Mumbai: If all goes as per plan, Mumbaikars will to see Seven Wonders of the World in a single place from next year. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to restore the Joseph Baptista Garden at Mazgaon and install replicas of Seven Wonders of the World at the cost of ` two crore.

The Baptista garden admeasuring 5.44 lakh sq ft, is one of the major and oldest gardens in the city. Situated on the 100-feet high Bhadarwada Hill, Mazgaon, it offers a panoramic view of south Mumbai. Known for various types of flora and fauna, the artificial waterfall at the garden is also an added attraction for the tourists.

According to civic officials, replicas of the Seven wonders – the Statue of Christ the Redeemer at Rio, Brazil; Leaning Tower at Pisa, Italy; Statue of Liberty at New York, USA; Colosseum at Rome, Italy; Eiffel Tower at Paris, France; Chichen Itza Pyramid at Tinum, Mexico and Taj Mahal, India – will be set up at the Baptista Garden.

“Boards showing information and features of the original seven wonders will be installed at each of the replica, which will be illuminated with LED lights enhancing their beauty further during the night time,” said a senior civic official.

To boost tourism and enhance glory of Mumbai, former Sena corporator Yamini Jadhav had proposed this plan. “The Pune Municipal Corporation has set up a ‘seven wonders’ project at the Yashwantrao Chavan Park in Shivdarshan Chowk, which one of its kind project in the entire Asia. It has the replicas of all seven wonders in the world,” she said.

We are in the process of issuing work order for the project at Baptista Garden and is expected to be complete by May 2018, said the official.
