Mumbai: Dahisar residents, taking a leaf out of Diva locals’ book, have been demanding trains to Churchgate that originate from their station. Dahisar station sees footfall of approximately two lakh commuters, who have to go to Borivali in order to find a place to sit during the morning peak hours.

A commuter group led by activist Pramod Lokre said that the issue had been a hindrance for a while and that they have been asking railway authorities to address the problem. He said, “The issue is that the trains that come from Borivali are already overcrowded that and have no option but to go to Borivali. However, even this doesn’t guarantee you a seat or even place to stand as huge crowds enter the train from Borivali too”.

Mr Lokre met the divisional railway manager Mukul Jain and requested that a loop line where trains were parked until a few years ago be revived again, so as to ensure that an originating train could be run. He added, “If this line is activated, at least a few originating services will provide major relief for us”.

Diva commuters too had asked for trains that originate from their station to ease their travel and, in fact, the station had witnessed a major riot in January 2015. The railways had then met the commuters half way and built a new platform to stop fast services that began to halt on December 18 last year.
