Drup peddler escapes from window of Azad Maidan Police Station
Mumbai: The city police has launched a search for a Nigerian national John Kennedy Ororo (35), who escaped from the custody of the Azad Maidan unit Anti-narcotic cell by jumping off the first floor of its building. The incident occurred at 2 am after he was brought to the police station from Nashik jail for investigation in a narcotics case in which he is allegedly involved. Kennedy was serving a jail-term at the Nashik jail after his conviction in a narcotics trafficking case.
According to ANC officials, Ororo, who stayed at Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai was arrested in January 2014 under a drug peddling charge by ANC’s Azad Maidan unit.
The ANC had taken him to Mumbai since he had recently completed his sentence and they wanted to deport him. Ororo was sent to three years of rigorous imprisonment and sent to the Nashik central jail, from where he was released on December 31.
“Technically, he was not an accused or a convict. Hence, the court had ordered him to be held in the unit but without handcuffs or any other restraints. He was then brought to the Azad Maidan unit while the process of his deportation was underway,” said an ANC officer.
On Sunday night, after having dinner, he was taken to the first floor of the unit to sleep. At around 4:00 am on Monday, Ororo allegedly jumped out of the open window of the first floor and ran away.
