Obese cop goes under knife at Saifee
Mumbai: Madhya Pradesh police inspector Daulatram Jogawat (58) on Thursday underwent bariatric surgery at privately-run Saifee Hospital. Hospital sources said that Jogawat’s doctors, led by bariatric surgeon Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, were looking to bring down his weight from nearly 180kg to 70 to 80 kg in 18 months by putting him on a special diet plan.
Expenses of Jogawat’s treatment are being borne by the Madhya Pradesh police’s welfare fund. A city columnist had recently poked fun at Jogawat’s weight on social media website Twitter. Earlier in 1993, Jogawat underwent gall bladder surgery in his hometown.
Confirming the same, superintendent of police, Manoj Kumar Singh, told The Asian Age, “His operation was scheduled and was successful. We wish him all the best for his future endeavours. This surgery will bring hope into his life as he is suffering from various ailments.”
Dr Lakdawala told this newspaper, “It is a sheer case of morbid obesity due to which, he has several disorders. Surgery was the best solution and life saving for him. After surgery and following the prescribed diet, he will weigh 80 kg which will take about a year and a half.”
Jogawat, who suffers from weight-related medical conditions including diabetes, blood pressure, heart-related illness, and digestion issues had undergone weight-loss surgery and will be treated post bariatric surgery by Dr Lakdawala.
He has been prescribed a more healthy diet which includes leafy vegetables, fruits and fibre-based food. After the operation, he will be on protein shakes and other healthy food. He has been advised to follow the right food habits. The cost of his surgery which is possibly coming to Rs 8 to Rs 10 lakh is being funded by Madhya Pradesh police’s welfare fund.
