State in dilemma over dilution of Atrocities Act

Mumbai: In the wake of protests by dalit organisations, the state government is in a dilemma whether to support the dalits or the Maratha community. The government had already assured Maratha morcha leaders that it would appoint district-level committees to conduct preliminary inquiries into the genuineness of complaints under the atrocities act.

It will now be difficult for the state to file a review petition against the SC order, said sources.
