MHADA lists 7 most perilous bldgs in city
Mumbai: Around 117 persons continue to reside in seven highly dangerous buildings of the city, confirmed the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) on Saturday.
The authority conducted a pre-monsoon survey of more than 14,000 cessed buildings in the city, of which, seven have been declared risky and capable of collapsing during the monsoon.
Apart from this, nearly 93 buildings under the civic body are of the C1 category, which is a dangerous category. The authority has decided to forcefully vacate the residents if needed.
Every year, MHADA’s repair and reconstruction board sends a team of engineers to survey cessed buildings.
Among the seven buildings listed as most dangerous are: Esplanade Mansion in Cuffe Parade, building no 208-220 at Babul Tank Road, building no 101-111 at Tardeo, building no 30-320 at Chandanwadi, building no 69-81 at Tardeo, building no 39 at Tardeo and building no 46-50 at Kalachowkie etc.
Among the seven buildings, six were listed in last year’s survey as well. “The ones which were declared dangerous last year are still in the process of repairs but we are going to evacuate the residents within the next 10 days,” said Prakash Mehta, housing development minister.
Further, officials from the repair board revealed that this year, the authority managed to repair 800 cessed buildings so far.
