Constable says will kill self, sends force into tizzy

He claimed he was harassed over a domestice dispute case.

Mumbai: A Mumbai police constable sent the force into a tizzy after a he circulated a text message alleging harassment in connection with a case of domestic dispute, stating that he would end his life. The constable Yuvraj Patil, who is currently attached with the police control room, alleged that he wanted to meet Mumbai police commissioner Dattatray Padsalgikar but had not been allowed to do so by his staff. Mr Patil later met the police chief.

After the text message circulated, Mr Patil’s colleagues and policemen detained him and he was taken to meet Mr Padsalgikar. The meeting was held in the presence of deputy commissioner of police (DCP), zone I, Manoj Sharma on Wednesday.

“There was a fake case against me following my divorce and my wife’s distant relative who was posted in Mumbai as a DCP had been orchestrating the same for harassing me. My dues were also pending for two years between 2004 and 2006,” said Mr Patil. “When I made attempts to meet the police commissioner I was not allowed to reach him,” Mr Patil said.

“I have been given an assurance by the police chief that the departmental enquiry (in connection with the case) will be taken off and my dues will be cleared in a week,” he added.
