Ramesh Kadam petition rejected by Bombay HC
Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Wednesday rejected the petition filed by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Ramesh Kadam, seeking permission to attend the monsoon assembly session so that he could raise the issue of the death of Byculla jail inmate Manju Shetye. While rejecting the plea, the HC held that the charges levelled against Kadam are serious in nature. The court said, “If Kadam wants to give additional information he can approach the investigation agency and give details”.
A division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Sarang Kotwal was hearing the plea filed by the NCP leader who was arrested for misappropriation of funds worth crores of rupees in the Anna Bhau Sathe Prathishtan. Kadam is a sitting MLA from Mohol constituency and has been lodged in Byculla jail for the past 23 months. Kadam claims that he witnessed the entire incident that led to Shetye’s death on June 23. Shetye died after allegedly being assaulted by six prison officials. Earlier, Kadam had given his statements to the crime branch.
