1 held, 4 detained in Vashi robbery case

The robbers had deployed a female robber as a worker to one of the victim's close relatives' house to gather information on him before striking.

Mumbai: The Vashi police arrested Subhash Patil, an accused in the case related to the robbery of Rs 2.09 crore at gunpoint from the house of a businessman last Thursday. They have also detained four more suspects, but have not managed to recover the money yet from the accused.

A gang of six robbed a Navi Mumbai trader and his family of cash and valuables worth at gunpoint last Thursday. The local police have registered a case of dacoity. The probe found that a woman who was earlier arrested in the case, is the wife of a police constable posted in Navi Mumbai. The accused, Patil, was arrested from Andhra Pradesh. A police officer said, “The six accused have spread to different districts and states after the robbery. A team of the Navi Mumbai crime branch police and Vashi police arrested one person and detained four suspects.” DCP Crime, Navi Mumbai, Tushar Doshi said, “We have detained some people and arrested Patil. Soon we will arrest more in the case. We will soon recover the amount too.”

The robbers had deployed a female robber as a worker to one of the victim’s close relatives’ house to gather information on him before striking. The woman, who was recently arrested, revealed that she had visited the victim’s house once to conduct a recce.

The woman used take advantage of her husband being a police constable. The woman accompanied the robbers and knocked at the door to gain easy entry into the house at a time the victim was away and only female members of the family were present. The police have also taken a few business rivals of the victim under the scanner as well to verify if the robbery was a hired job.
